What does a GEO service include? A Malaysia comparison
Co-Founder, Geo One

A GEO service, short for Generative Engine Optimisation, a term used by providers including Geo One to describe AI visibility work, not yet a formally standardised industry label, is monthly work that makes a business findable and correctly described inside AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. In Malaysia it almost always bundles the same five jobs: crawler access, structured data, fact consistency across your website and directories, content shaped to be quoted, and tracked reporting on real buyer questions. Published Malaysian pricing runs from about RM500 to RM10,000 a month depending on scope; figures come from each provider's own published pricing page, checked in July 2025, and are approximate, confirm directly before you decide.
This is written for owners and practice managers of Klang Valley professional services firms with 2 to 50 staff: clinics, dental and veterinary practices, law and accounting firms, tuition centres and property agencies. Disclosure: it comes from Geo One, a GEO and Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) agency based in Kuala Lumpur, and we are one of the options compared below.
What is actually inside a GEO service?
Whatever the price, the work breaks into five parts. If a proposal is missing one of them, ask why.
- Crawler access. Whether GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended can reach your pages, and whether those pages render without JavaScript. These are separate user agents doing separate jobs, and a blanket
Disallowcopied from a template can catch all of them. - Structured data that matches reality. Organization or LocalBusiness markup, services, practitioners, opening hours, written against the published types on Schema.org. Plenty of plugins output valid schema. Fewer output schema that describes what the business actually does.
- Fact consistency. Name, address, phone, hours and credentials agreeing across your site, your Google Business Profile and the directories that carry you. Assistants reconcile conflicting sources by picking one version. You want that version to be yours.
- Content shaped to be quoted. A paper presented at ACM KDD 2024 by researchers from Princeton University and IIT Delhi found that content enriched with statistics and citations was associated with measurably higher visibility in AI-generated responses than unmodified content. That is a correlation measured in a controlled benchmark, not a promise about your business. The paper is available at arXiv:2311.09735, confirm it matches your use case before citing it further.
- Answer tracking. A fixed list of buyer questions, asked across several assistants on a schedule, recorded so this month can be compared with last month.
If you want the sequence rather than the shopping list, our five-step guide to generative engine optimisation in Malaysia walks through the order we do it in.
For a firm of 2 to 50 staff with nobody internal running marketing, the item that usually moves first is the third one, not the fourth. A dental practice with three different sets of opening hours across its website, its Google Business Profile and two directory listings does not have a content problem. It has a reconciliation problem, and no amount of new blog posts will fix it.
What is usually not in the box?
Three things are routinely implied and rarely delivered.
- Guaranteed citations. No AI platform documents a way to buy or guarantee placement in its answers, you can check that in the OpenAI platform documentation. GEO work improves the signals those platforms use when deciding what to quote; it does not control the outcome. Some published plans in this market still advertise guarantees. Ask for the promise in writing, then ask what happens if it is not met.
- Volume content production. GEO retainers at the lower end are diagnostic and corrective. If you also need twelve articles a month, that is a separate line item with a separate price.
- Control of the model. Assistants change their sourcing behaviour on their own schedule. A provider can improve what is available to be quoted. Nobody controls what gets quoted.
How do Malaysian GEO providers compare on price and scope?
The figures below come from each provider's own published pricing page, checked in July 2025. Prices change; confirm directly before you decide.
| Provider | Published focus | Published price |
|---|---|---|
| Geo One | GEO and AEO for SMEs of 2 to 50 staff and solo professionals, monitored across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity | RM500 to RM2,000 a month |
| JustSimple | Bundled SEO, AEO and GEO starter plan | From RM1,200 a month, enterprise tier from RM2,800 over twelve months |
| Rankpage | AI SEO, AEO, GEO, entity development, AI visibility management | From RM1,500 a month |
| Cleverus | GEO, AI citation monitoring and brand accuracy, described as SEO 2.0 | RM2,000 to RM10,000 a month, KPI-tied, no lock-in |
| Oblique | Buyer-intent GEO and AI citation optimisation | Not published in the material we checked |
The useful read here is not who is cheapest. It is what the price band tells you about who the service is built for. A plan starting at RM2,000 and running to RM10,000 is usually scoped for a company with someone in-house to brief it, approve content and chase the web developer. A plan at the RM500 end assumes the opposite: nobody internal has time, so the work has to run without a weekly meeting. Our own pricing page sits at the lower end because the service is delivered by AI agents that scan, fix and report weekly.
Neither band is wrong. Buying the wrong one is. A twelve-month enterprise tier bought by a four-person law firm will spend most of its budget waiting for the firm to respond.
Five questions to ask before you sign
- Which user agents did you check, and can you show me the line for each? "We checked robots.txt" is one check. There are at least five bots that matter.
- Can I see the schema you wrote, rendered? Not a screenshot of a validator passing. The actual fields, so you can confirm they describe your practice.
- What is my fixed question list, and who approves it? If the questions change between reports, the month-on-month comparison is decorative.
- Which assistants are tracked, and how often? ChatGPT alone is a partial view of a market where Gemini ships inside Android and Perplexity behaves differently again.
- What does month six buy that month one did not? Most of the crawl access and schema work is front-loaded. Ask what the retainer is paying for once it is done. A provider who cannot answer this is selling a one-off project on a subscription.
What does honest GEO reporting look like?
It looks like a number that is sometimes down.
A usable monthly report lets you answer three things without calling anyone: which question was asked, which assistant answered it, and whether you were named, your competitor was named, or nobody was. Everything else is commentary. The question list stays fixed, so the comparison means something.
Citation counts also move for reasons no agency controls: a model update, an index refresh, a competitor finally fixing their own listings. A provider who explains a drop is more useful than one whose chart only ever rises, because the second one has either been curated or is measuring something too vague to fall.
If your current report has no month where anything went backwards, ask what is being measured.
Frequently asked questions
How much does GEO cost in Malaysia?
Published Malaysian GEO pricing runs from about RM500 to RM10,000 a month depending on scope, based on each provider's own published pricing page checked in July 2025. Geo One runs RM500 to RM2,000, JustSimple from RM1,200, Rankpage from RM1,500, and Cleverus from RM2,000 to RM10,000. Confirm prices directly with each provider before deciding, as they change.
Can a GEO agency guarantee my business appears in ChatGPT or Gemini answers?
No GEO provider can guarantee citations or placement in AI assistant answers. OpenAI's platform documentation confirms there is no documented way to buy or guarantee placement. GEO work improves the signals AI platforms use when deciding what to quote, but nobody controls the outcome. If a plan you are reviewing advertises a guarantee, ask for it in writing and ask what happens if it is not met.
What are the five things a GEO service should include?
A GEO service should cover crawler access for bots such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot, structured data markup that accurately describes your business, fact consistency across your website and directories, content shaped to be quoted by AI assistants, and tracked reporting on a fixed list of real buyer questions. If a proposal is missing any of these five, ask the provider why.

Why would inconsistent opening hours or contact details hurt my AI visibility?
When your name, address, phone, hours or credentials differ across your website, Google Business Profile and directory listings, AI assistants reconcile those conflicting sources by picking one version, which may not be yours. A dental practice with three different sets of opening hours has a reconciliation problem, not a content problem, and publishing new blog posts will not fix it. Correcting fact consistency is often the work that moves first.
How do I know if my GEO reports are actually useful?
A usable monthly report lets you answer three things without calling anyone: which question was asked, which assistant answered it, and whether your business was named, a competitor was named, or nobody was. The question list must stay fixed between reports so month-on-month comparisons mean something. If your reports show no month where anything went backwards, ask what is being measured, because a chart that only rises has likely been curated or is tracking something too vague to fall.
What is not usually included in a GEO retainer?
Three things are commonly implied but rarely delivered: guaranteed citations in AI answers, high-volume content production, and control over what the AI models actually quote. Lower-priced retainers are typically diagnostic and corrective. If you also need twelve articles a month, that is a separate line item at a separate price. No provider controls when or how AI assistants change their sourcing behaviour.
